Post-Storm Cleanup in Kansas City: Yard Waste Without the Wait
After a serious KC storm, the wait for cleanup help can stretch days. How yard-waste-only loads stay fast and stay green.
The short version: driveway placement is permit-free. Street placement requires a right-of-way permit from the city. We handle most of it.
Call (816) 427-6571If we can fit the dumpster on your property — driveway, alley pad, side yard — you don't need a permit, you don't need anyone's approval. We just show up and drop.
KCMO requires a Right-of-Way Use Permit for anything placed in the public right-of-way (street, curb, parking strip). About $50, takes a few business days. We help you file it.
The permit is issued by the City of Kansas City Public Works department. You — the property owner — are technically the applicant, since the permit is tied to the address. We provide the dumpster details (size, placement, dates) for the application.
The application asks for: property address, exact placement (in front of, side of, etc.), start date, end date, and dimensions of the dumpster. There's a fee — typically around $50 for a residential dumpster — and the city aims to process within 3 business days, though we often see same-week turnaround.
Once issued, the permit must be visible on the dumpster during placement. KC requires reflective markings on the dumpster for nighttime visibility — we include those on every street-placed unit.
If your placement requires temporary "no parking" signage (common on narrow streets), that's a separate request through KC's 311 system. We can walk you through that piece too.
No placement in front of fire hydrants. No placement that blocks ADA-accessible curb cuts. No placement closer than 15 feet to an intersection or crosswalk.
No placement in alleys without express alley-access agreement — KC alleys are generally narrow and the truck needs swing room. Most alley placements end up being driveway-adjacent rather than centered in the alley.
For historic districts (Quality Hill, parts of Westport, the Northeast Historic District where we're located on Independence Ave) some additional review may apply. We've worked in all of them — call us, we'll tell you what we know.

Why being headquartered in the Northeast Historic District lets us drop dumpsters faster than franchise outfits headquartered in Overland Park.
